In Attendance: Lily Ren, Ken Kongkatong, JessiKa Wu, Victoria Greco, and Hailey Parliament

At Kelly Library Cafe, 5:00pm.

We have new office space! We are now located on the second floor of Kelly Library in Room 229. There will be office hours held every week by a member of the Executive Committee.

Topics of Discussion:

  • Academic and Social Event Planning

  • Fund-raising ideas for the Foolscap Journal

  • General Meeting is set to take place on Tuesday September 30 at 3:00pm in Carr Hall Room 107.

Topics that went to vote:

  • the creation of Year Reps to contact and promote BMSSA to their classrooms and who will meet with the executive committee to collaborate on new and exciting events.

    • majority voted to incorporate Year Representatives.

    • Year Representatives will be nominated in October

A Survey, A Journal Launch, and A New Exec

Hey there, BMS students!

Congratulations on finishing your classes – we’re sure you’ll ace all of your exams. 🙂

Now that the year is coming to an end, we’re hoping to get your feedback on how the BMS Student Association has done this year. Please fill out our survey at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1d6N9ixV6k9Rh2yNIfSEj19wSkFGUrQUBeg565ylP0kg/ when you have five minutes to spare. The survey will be open until April 19th.

Also, we’d like to invite you to our final event of the year – the launch of the first-ever volume of the BMS academic journal, The Foolscap! Your 2013-2014 BMSSA Exec

BHCP Colloquium THIS WEEKEND

Friday and Saturday is the Book History & Print Culture Grad Colloquium, “Toronto & the Book,” to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Toronto Centre for the Book. All are welcome and there is no registration fee (but there will be some book-nerdy takeaways!). You can see the program and register at the website: http://torontoandthebook.blogspot.ca/. The conference will be held at Massey College.

If you’re interested in grad school, book history, printing, or book arts, this is a great opportunity to meet some people. There will be some very well-known Toronto-based printers, book artists, publishers, bibliographers, and book historians talking to us or in attendance.

2014-2015 Elections!

As the end of the school year is fast approaching, our Exec’s time with BMSSA is almost up. This means that you, yes you, now have a chance to hop on board the BMSSA Executive Team! Nominations are due by Monday, March 10th and elections will be held on Wednesday, March 12th. The available positions are:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Social and Academic Events Coordinator (which could be split into two positions if there is a lot of interest)
  • Secretary/Webmaster
  • Journal Editor

If you are interesting in running for any of these positions, simply email bookandmedia@utoronto.ca with your name, year of study, affiliation to BMS (major or minor) and the position you would like to run for. If you have any questions, please email us or ask them on our Facebook page!
