Happy Halloween!

spooky book

Happy Halloween! It is already the end of October, which really means one more month of classes for the first semester! Isn’t that kind of spooky?

This has been a great week for Book and Media Studies Students, we hosted our academic event: a 3D printing workshop which certified those who attended and also gave us a great demonstration of the technology at work. Students that came out were also welcomed by some great food and welcoming faces. Thank you again to all that attended.

There will be more information on more events that the BMSSA is hosting soon.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween! See you next month!

Week 7 and A 3D Printing Workshop!

Hello BMSers and welcome to Week Seven! I hope that all the essays and midterms haven’t been too stressful for you.

We at the BMSSA Executive Team have exciting news for you to get you through this rainy, dreary month of October. BMSSA presents to you, Unnatural Grains: 3D Printing and Material Realities, a lecture on the history of 3D printing and discussions about the materiality of 3D printing and digital technologies grounded in the material world with guest speaker Daniel Southwick.

Following the lecture, there will be a short presentation on the 3D printers and the printing process.

Light refreshments will be served.

Make sure to come and check it out! This event promises to be fun and interesting. See you then.

Happy Tuesday!

Welcome Back and Congratulations to our Representatives!

Welcome back from the long weekend, I hope everyone enjoyed some time off and some great food.

Last week the BMSSA held our first pub night of the year and it was a great success, there was lots of laughs and good food to be shared.

As you may know, an important aspect of the Pub Night was everyone’s ability to vote for the Yearly Representatives who will be working with our executive team this year. Thank you to all the candidates and congratulations to our new members:

2nd year rep – Kendra Maya
4th year rep – Caitlin Plainos
Member at large – Marco Piccolo

I hope everyone has a great week and stay tuned here to find out more about our fun and exciting upcoming events. Good luck to those of you with midterms and essays coming up! Happy Tuesday 🙂

Last week the general meeting went fantastically, it was so much fun to meet everyone and enjoy some snacks and stories. This week more opportunities are available for folks to come in and say hi with our official office hours beginning. The schedule looks a little something like this:

Week of October 13: Jessica is here Thursday 4-5

Week of October 20: Lily is here Tuesday 12-1 and Ken is here Thursday 12-1

All of us are knowledgeable and super friendly and willing to share our snacks and chat with you. Make sure you use us to your advantage!

Another exciting piece of information this week is our Pub Night we have planned for Thursday October 9th from 7-10pm at the Fox and the Fiddle on Bloor. Come out for some food and drinks and enjoy getting to know your executive and fellow members of the program in a casual setting.

That’s all from us this week! Happy Thanksgiving and I will updating the webpage again next Tuesday. Enjoy your long weekend, stay safe, and maybe even read a book that isn’t on your syllabus. Whatever you do, enjoy!!
